Steampunk Mixed Media Card

If you’re not already aware I teach card Making in my small studio, check out my classes available.  I have had a request from a new lady to make a couple of special cards for a 16th and 70th Birthday.  As this is going to be a One to One class and personal to her I asked her what style she was looking  for, her style is mixed media lots of layers.  This is out of my comfort zone 😲 so after being sent a couple of pictures from Erica I had a practise.  This is what I’ve come up with!

The only item not Stampin’ Up is the Paper I used for my top layer, this is a Mixed Media paper that was in my stash from my painting days.  I’ve used the refill inks Blueberry Bushel, Bermuda Bay and Pool Party to smoosh my paper than when dry added water droplets.  Check out my video below to see how I did this.

My view of Mixed Media is lots of layers, I’ve stamped my Very Vanilla cardstock with Crumb Cake, then rubbed over Black with my Finger Dauber followed my Heat Embossing with Copper Embossing Powder.

I’ve then used the Very Vanilla to cut out the Good Morning Magnolia Flower, the center is from Geared Up Garage dies, and a Copper Metallic Brad to hold it all together.  What a different look to the normal Magnolia Flower!

My butterflies were than stamped on the same decorated Very Vanilla and punched out.

As the card has lots of dimension I made a card box in Basic Black, decorating in a similar style to the card.  I wanted to use Crumb Cake but didn’t. Have enough Card stock left.  You need two pieces of A4 Card stock to make the box.

Fancy Fold - Ink Stamp Share

Image may contain: text

Welcome to this months Ink. Stamp. Share blog hop, you may of hopped from Tricia Butts great project, thanks Tricia, or maybe you started with me today.    This month our theme is Fancy Fold, who doesn't love a fancy fold card.

I’m using the great new stamp set Sailing Home for this Tent Fold Card.

This my first time making this style of card and I love it.  It stands up really well and looks good too.

Can you see the waves made with the High Seas 3D embossing folder.  I coloured my vellum with Night of Navy, Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay before running through the embossing folder.  Wait for it to dry first.

Hard to photo from side, you can see the fold at the bottom which keeps this card upright but also folds flat to go into envelope.  There is also the hanging vellum inside the card.  You don’t have to use vellum inside you could use a DSP.  You could also just stick DSP to the back of the card and not have the hanging feature at all.

I’ve die cut Whisper White with the largest Nesting Stitched dies for somewhere to write your message, then added to the back of the card.

I’ve carefully stuck the Braided Linen Trim round my circle cut out, finishing where I knew I would be sticking my embellishments.  This works well as the trim is flat.

What would I do differently?  I would use a lighter colour on my sea or maybe add a white background. But I’m pretty happy with it.

Made a video, please subscribe if you haven't already.

Please hop along with the great team from Ink. Stamp. ShareShirley Merker is next
