Join me and a great group of Independent Stampin’ Up ladies on this hop.  Every month we design cards or 3D papercraft items to help to inspire your creative juices.  We are dotted all round the world.  This month our theme is Dad’s & Grad’s.  I’m making an Explosion box for Father’s Day.

Inside my box is a fortune teller.

My box is nautical and I’ve stuck with traditional colours Real Red, Night of Navy, Whisper White with a splash of Balmy Blue & Silver Foil.

Interestingly my Fortune Teller inside my box has lot’s of different names, my husband is a Kent boy and they called them Salt Cellars, I’m an Essex girl and we called them Fortune Teller’s but I know they are called Cootie Catcher’s in USA.  Whatever the name I made loads of these as a child and I had no problem when I came to make a practice one, muscle memory?  

When making as a child the front was always a colour, you would choose a colour then count the letters and make your moves, then choose a number, count your moves and the last number choice would be the flap you would open.  I decided I liked my Fortune teller blue & white so didn’t want to spoil my top with colours!

I used to have lot’s of problems making lids for my explosion boxes as they were always too tight and made my sides bend, until I realised I needed to make my lid just a touch larger when scoring.  Check out my video for visual instructions.

There was a heap of cutting and die cutting required, you don’t need every stamp set I used to make this box, adapt to what you have.  You can also write your message inside your Fortune Teller, my writings not the best so I pulled out lot’s of stamp set’s for my sentiments.
